Hello guys, bonjour les amis! I hope that you are having a great week so far. If you are looking for a place with delicious breakfast à la française, well look no more, I found it! I am excited to tell you that a new French bakery has arrived in Soma, in the heart of San Francisco called Les Gourmands Bakery. Nothing more exciting for a Parisian foodie like me, in love with French pastries!!! I am even more excited to tell you about this new “boulangerie” because I found their story interesting, and I wanted to share it with you.
In a modern and creative atmosphere, the amazing artist Nairone helped design the interior of this new bakery. As the owner explained to me, it is a family run business, from father to son, the passion of baking has been transmitted through the generations.
But what is even more interesting is that the owners have decided to create a innovative and challenging concept. Indeed, instead of having people go to school in order to learn the baking techniques for making traditional French pastries, they decided to coach, and teach new passionate apprentices in order to learn the job by watching professionals, and by practising everyday. The training is 18 months long, while the apprentices learn the techniques mastered by the best pastry chefs in the world. They also learn how to choose the products, how to build a business, all this while being paid! A big challenge for this family of bakers who want to show to the world that it is possible to learn the profession of “Pâtissier” without having to go to school but instead by watching passionate, and talented bakers teach them the best baking techniques while being paid.
I have to say, I am really impressed and I wish Les Gourmands Bakery all the best, and a successful future in San Francisco! In the meantime, go visit them in Soma, their pastries are delicious and their staff members will welcome you with so much kindness!

Je crois qu’en effet ils avaient des brioches au sucre oui 🙂 Je ne les ai pas goûtées!! Je vais tenter d’en faire maison dans la semaine, si je réussi je viendrai t’en ramener 🙂

Ton article fait super envie et j’aime beaucoup leur idée d’apprentissage, apprendre avec les experts pour en devenir un plus tard. J’ajoute l’adresse à ma to-go list 😉
